The 255/80 is a true 33" tire, often a little over, like 33.3-33.4" (most 285/70's are slightly below 33") and shouldn't rub any more than a 285/70 does. Actually had some time to work on it this weekend! I have a friend that put a 295/70/17 under his 5th Gen. I have a 4th Gen with a 285/70/17, but it’s worn down, completely deflated and I used a ratchet strap to pull it closer to the hitch and away from the panhard bar. Keeping deflated is a good idea.My 4Runner is both a daily driver and my adventure mobile. These 33-inch tires allow me to maintain some decent MPG numbers and hit the trails like a boss! I was planning on buying the K02’s sized at 285/70/17. But, after your review I am wondering if I should just go with the 275’s instead. I do a lot of extreme off-roading in the desert areas that are very remote, so I need dependable tires. The largest size on a leveling kit or lift kit is relative depending on kit height. These terms “leveling kit and lift kit” are relative as they both can achieve similar ride heights. For 2″ heights 275/75r16 and 275/70r17 seem to clear with no major issues. For 3″ heights 285/75r16 and 285/70r17 seem to clear with no major issues.Even with the wider 285/70r17 you will gain about an inch of clearance on the inside vs stock, so control arm clearance shouldn't be an issue. The fact that 265/75 R17 doesn't exist is what allows you to just refer to tire size as 265 or 285.Helpful. Thank you. I did a 3" lift, OME BP-51 with a body mount chop, removed front mud flaps, cut 1.5 inches into front bumper for clearance to make Falken Wildpeak AT3w 285/70/17 fit with SCS Ray 10 wheels with a -10mm offset.
